Qualification:

•B.Sc.{Hons.II:I}in Biochemistry, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Dyfed,U.K,1975. 
•Ph.D. in Biochemistry, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Dyfed, U.K, 1979.
•Fellowship of the international college of nutrition (FICN), 2009.

 

Academic positions and memberships:             

•Assistant professor of Clinical Biochemistry –Faculty of Medicine- KAU 1979.

•Professor of Clinical Biochemistry in -Faculty of Medicine - KAU 2002 .

•Member in  numerous scientific bodies including the Association of Clinical Biochemists (UK) since 1976 – Date, the Saudi society for food and nutrition since 2002 and fellow in the International College of Nutrition since 2008.

•Head of the nutrition research unit at King Fahd research center since 2000.

•Head of the (Environmental health) division in (The Centre for Excellence in Environmental Studies) since 2007.
•Vice-President of “The Saudi Society for Environmental Sciences” since 2009.

•Head of Saudi Diabetes Research Group since 2009.                                       
•Vice Dean (Female section) for medicine 1980- 87 and 1993-96. 
•Coordinator for “Musculoskeletal system” module since2006.                                  
•Coordinator for “Nutrition and Metabolism” module since 2006.

•Supervisor for department of clinical Biochemistry – female section since 2007.
•Member in the departmental committee for preparing OSPE.

 

Experience and activities:

•Participated in planning, up-dating & teaching of the clinical biochemistry syllabus for medical, nursing, dental, pharmacy and applied medical sciences students.

•Participated in planning and teaching of courses for the Master degree in Clinical Biochemistry.

•Co supervisor for three PhD Projects and 7 Master Degree projects conducted in collaboration with other departments and faculties in KAU, and with various universities in the UK (King’s Collage, Sheffield and Surrey) and Sudan.

•Participated in a number of committees at both the faculty level and the university level as well as the national level, examples include:
-Faculty of Medicine Curriculum Committee 1980-1987 & 1993-1996 .

-Nutrition and dietetics committee at the university hospital  1999-Date .

-Postgraduate studies Committee  2003-007 .

-Committee for (medical research ethics) 2004 – Date .

-The board of the trustees for awarding "the university prizes for scientific excellence". 2007- Date.
-The scientific committee for the Saudi society for food and nutrition 2002- Date .

•Attended more than 25 scientific conferences locally and internationally, and presented papers.

1988-1991       Principal investigator in a research project entitled “The Determination of Some Essential Elements in Serum of infants and Pre-school Children in the Jeddah Area” Sponsored by the University Research Committee

Scientific interests

 

·        Conducting fields research on local nutritional status, dietary habits and practices of different population groups and linking that to common medical conditions and disorders

·        Developing the concept of the link between local dietary habits and practices and common medical conditions and suggesting feasible remedies

·        Developing programs to increase the public environmental awareness

·        Developing programs to increase the public nutritional awareness

·        Researching into the effect of ethnicity on drug efficacy, interaction and metabolism
